THE CHEF.
Chef Prakash found his culinary passion at a very young age growing up in the foothills of the beautiful Himalayas. Raised by his father, Chef Prakash learned the value of hard work at a very young age. Some of his most beautiful childhood memories revolve around the kitchen. His father was an excellent cook in Nepalese cuisine and loved cooking up some ethnic dishes for the family every weekend. Chef Prakash was his little helper who would sit by the charcoal stove stirring the curry as it simmered.
Having graduated from one of the oldest universities in Nepal, Tribhuvan University, and Chef Prakash did not find any joy in his corporate job. He felt something missing in life, perhaps the joy he felt when he sat beside his father cooking as a kid. He decided to quit his job and embark on his culinary journey. He worked as an apprentice at Hotel Gangjong in Katmandu where he was given multiple opportunities to hone his skills. He spent the next few years travelling and working in various parts of Asia such as India, China, and Singapore. After conquering the sub-continent, he decided to explore some modern cooking techniques in USA and England. Working at some of the most prestigious hotels and restaurants, he was able to master his craft. After spending five years in USA and England, Chef Prakash decided to trade in his umbrella for a winter coat as his culinary journey then brought him to Canada.
Chef Prakash moved to Canada in 2011 at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. He fell in love with the snow-covered peaks as they reminded him of his home in Nepal. During his three years at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, his only regret is not learning how to snowboard. In a quest to experience big city life, Chef moved to Calgary in 2014 as a Sous Chef at the Fairmont Palliser. He continued to gain knowledge by participating in two task force opportunities in Fairmont Chateau Whistler and the Fairmont Empress in Victoria. His hard work and passion for cooking saw him rise to the position of Executive Sous Chef before he joined our team at the Sheraton Eau Claire as Executive Chef.
His love for fresh ingredients and traditional cooking techniques is unmatched. Over the past few years, Chef Prakash has been involved with various communities around the city to help train them on how to cook delicious ethnic food at home. Chef Prakash firmly believes that in order to be successful, one must have an excellent team of dedicated and passionate culinarians.
